Reflected Realities

Looking from the outside in, windows become portals for me to witness the inner and outer world dissolve into one. These images provide a fascinating opportunity to explore the subjective nature of reality by integrating only fragments of each scene. When focusing on what is important to us and letting the unimportant fade away we create our own “Reflected Realities.”

For centuries, artists have been painting nature; inspired by its beauty. I have chosen to paint “with” nature by photographing it in natural flowing streams. This experience inspires me to release any attachment to reality and move into a more abstracted vision. Unexpected surprises are offered in the ephemeral moment as I compose imaginative landscapes, forms and figures. This body of work is teaching me how to paint with a photographer’s eye.

Abstracted Realities

My true enjoyment with photography is capturing something I see in real time. All images in this series are created with found objects and unique opportunities.  I find it thrilling to create in the moment because the vision might not exist at a later time. The challenge is to use what I am given and visually recreate it into a new vision.
